Barcelona are reportedly close to landing Nastic midfielder Josep Calavera, hailed as the next Sergio Busquets.

Spanish publication Sport are claiming that Barcelona are close to signing Nastic midfielder Josep Calavera. The youngster, who has been labelled the next ‘Sergio Busquets’, is also on the radar of Real Madrid and Valencia. But it seems the Catalans are closing in on a deal to bring the player over to Nou Camp in the summer.

Josep Calavera is reportedly set to sign a long-term deal with Barcelona and is touted to be very high up on the potential charts as per the Catalan side. Calavera plays as a pivot in the midfield, which, along with his tall and lean build, has automatically drawn comparisons with Barcelona superstar Sergio Busquets.

The technical staff is hopeful Calavera can draw inspiration from the midfielder, with the player likely to slot straight into the Barcelona B team once he joins. Josep’s brother Jordi, also from the Nastic setup, is now an Eibar player, currently on loan at Lugo, and is a central defender also on the radar of several Spanish clubs.

Josep has drawn interest also from Real Madrid and Valencia. Real Madrid, in particular, are known to scour for impressive youngsters and have been linked to several in recent times, like Aaron Martin Caricol, Adrian Mancebo and others.

The 17-year-old has been impressive for Nastic’s B team and senior squad while playing for them in the Copa Catalunya. It seems Barcelona have beaten Real Madrid to the signature of the youngster, who looks set to be the next player to be a part of the laudable youth setup at Nou Camp.

Sergio Busquets is already 28 and has no like-for-like cover options either, something which Barcelona are looking to correct this summer with a move in the pipeline for Nemanja Matic. However, in the long scheme of things, Calavera could serve as the future of the club at that position taking over from Busquets in due time.

Real Madrid have Casemiro as a player with a similar skill-set as Sergio Busquets and is also young, which means he can boss the position for the years to come. Although Los Blancos would be disappointed at being beaten to a wondrous talent by Barcelona, the Catalans moved very quickly to secure the player’s future with them.

Only time will tell whether he can actually be as good as he has touted to be. For now, though, the club can rejoice at securing another impressive young Spanish talent, another thing that has been the core of all great Barcelona teams in the past.
