Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Chelsea and Juventus in the race to sign AC Milan forward Suso in the summer
The Daily Mirror have reported that Tottenham Hotspur have identified Suso as a summer transfer target and are weighing up a move for him. The North London club have joined Chelsea and Juventus in pursuit of the AC Milan midfielder.
The 23-year-old joined Liverpool’s youth setup before making his senior Reds debut in 2012. Thereafter, Suso spent two-and-a-half highly unfruitful years at Anfield, managing just 21 senior appearances in all competitions before moving on to AC Milan in January 2015.
He initially struggled to adapt to life in Italy, but 2016/17 has seen Suso finally kickstart his senior career to establish himself as a pivotal figure in Vincenzo Montella’s first team plans at San Siro. The Spaniard has 6 goals and 9 assists in 30 appearances in all competitions, but is currently sidelined with a thigh injury.
With Suso starting to deliver on his immensely promising talent, clubs are starting to take note of his impressive performances. Chelsea and Juventus were reported to have registered their interest in the player last week, and the two European heavyweights have now been joined by Tottenham.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is believed to a be huge admirer of Suso’s talents and the Spanish midfielder now features prominently on his wishlist for the summer. Indeed, with European qualification all but certain, summer reinforcements are a priority.
Thus, Chelsea have reportedly stepped up their interest in signing Suso, but Juventus are also keen on the player. Giuseppe Marotta is eager to add attacking players to the Bianconeri’s squad in the summer and is thus eyeing several players, with Suso one of the top targets.
The two clubs, though, will not go head-to-head for Suso’s signature come June, because Tottenham have become the latest side to join in his pursuit.
Like his Chelsea counterpart, Mauricio Pochettino is also desperate to add attacking players to his squad, with just Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung-Min Son, Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela to choose from for three positions.
Of these, Lamela and Sissoko have often frustrated the Tottenham boss with their inconsistent performances and have also been linked with a summer exit from the North London club. That leaves Pochettino short of options, making Suso a viable target for the summer.
Suso still has more than two years left on his current deal at San Siro, but Vincenzo Montella is eager to tie him up for a longer duration. However, there has been little development on a renewal owing to the delayed takeover of Milan by Sino-Europe Sports, making a summer exit from Milan highly likely.
