As per a report from Honduras’ local newspaper Diez, Liverpool have taken up highly-rated Wesly Decas on trial at the club. The player, who currently, plies his trade for Honduras outfit Atletico Independiente is set to spend a week at Melwood in the hopes of earning a permanent move to the illustrious club.

Wesly Decas is a Honduran left-back who is highly rated back in his homeland. The player was one of the undisputed starters in the international Under-20 team at the recently concluded South American Under-20 Championship, an event where they managed to reach the finals, only to lose to USA on penalties.

As per the report, Liverpool scouts were in attendance during the event and it seems the left-back left a positive impression on them, with the Reds now taking him on trial to take a closer look at the teenager.

Liverpool are short of options at the left-back position. James Milner has transitioned beautifully into a makeshift left-back so far this season. But, the shortcomings of the veteran are sometimes there for all to see. In all fairness, Milner would aid the team’s cause better as a midfielder, which is is the player’s preferred position.

And, a left-back is at the top of his priorities, with Liverpool being linked to the likes of Ben Chilwell and Fode Ballo-Toure.

Jurgen Klopp has always donned the role of a nurturer of talent and that is evident from the profile of players Liverpool have been linked with; a profile that Decas seems to fit perfectly.

The 17-year-old night not be a product ready to don the role of a starter for a club like Liverpool, but is definitely another one of the highly-rated youngsters in the footballing world; and to many, an unknown quantity.

Klopp has overseen the rise to stardom of potentially unknown quantities like Robert Lewandowski, and the Reds would hope Decas recreates a growth graph similar to the Polish striker.

For now, though, Decas would be heavily concentrated on impressing the coaches during his week-long trial, wherein he will be deployed in both the Under-19 and Under-23 squad in order to analyse the player’s talent and potential closely. Who knows, Decas might just be the next success story.
