Juventus and Liverpool have registered an interest in Danilo and are set to go head-to-head for the Real Madrid defender, as per reports.
Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Juventus and Liverpool are both interested in signing their long-time target Danilo. The two European heavyweights look set to go head-to-head t0 land the Real Madrid defender in the summer.
Danilo arrived at Real Madrid with a burgeoning reputation of being rated as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe after three fruitful years with Porto, and was even being hailed as the ‘next Dani Alves’. But, less than two seasons into the move and the 25-year-old has not managed to deliver on that promise.
In fact, Danilo has been on a downward spiral at the Santiago Bernabeu instead of developing as a solid and dependable right-back. Poor form and injuries have been a contributing factor and things have only gone from bad to worse for the Brazilian this season.
Danilo has managed to start just 14 games in all competitions in 2016/17, and the Real Madrid supporters seem to have had enough of the player too, as they voiced their displeasure towards him after scoring two own goals in a row in January, with the latter resulting in Los Blancos’ exit from the Copa Del Rey.
Recent reports have indicated that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has also deemed Danilo’s situation at the Bernabeu to be “irrecoverable” and the capital club had taken the decision to sell him in the summer.
Chinese Super League clubs were believed to be interested in signing the right-back but no outfit put a concrete offer on Real Madrid’s table. However, Juventus and Liverpool have now registered an interest in Danilo, with both clubs said to be huge fans of the player’s talents.
Juventus are, in fact, long-time admirers of Danilo and have been eyeing him ever since he moved to Europe, joining Porto from Santos in 2012. The Bianconeri now look set to make a move for the Brazil international in the summer, with Giuseppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici considering him as a strong prospest.
Indeed, they need strengthening in that particular position, with summer signing Dani Alves blowing hot and cold all season, and Stephan Lichtsteiner looking likely to leave the Juventus Stadium at the end of the season.
However, the Serie A giants are set to face competition from Liverpool in order to land Danilo in the summer, with the Premier League club also said to be “big fans” of the player. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp does have the consistent and reliable Nathaniel Clyne as right-back in his squad but has little to choose from beyond him.
The addition of Danilo would, thus, bolster his squad as they prepare to contest on four fronts next season. A value of €25 million has been placed on Danilo’s head and it now remains to be seen if either of the clubs make good on their interest in the Brazilian come June.
