Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Isco, according to reports
According to L’Equipe, Unai Emery has been a fan of Isco for a while now – having watched him closely while he managed Sevilla – and is keen on bringing him to Paris next season, should the midfielder push for a move.
Isco has been in and out of Real Madrid’s starting lineup this season and has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Santiago Bernabeu, leading to rumours that he will seek a move at the end of the season.
The Spanish international has managed only 12 starts in the La Liga this season, making 8 substitute appearances, and has picked up 6 goals and 5 assists in those appearances. He has been impressive whenever selected but has been left on the bench on several occasions by Zinedine Zidane this season.
The midfielder himself admitted that he was worried over his lack of minutes and that he would make a decision over his future come the end of the season. And, should he choose to leave, he will have no shortage of suitors.
L’Equipe claim that Isco’s agent – who happens to be his father, Paco Alcaron – has already met with representatives from PSG and discussed terms over a possible move in the summer. This will be a blow to both Barcelona and Manchester City, who have also been heavily linked with a move for the Spaniard.
Barcelona have been linked with a shock move for the midfielder, who the Catalans apparently view as the long-term successor to Andres Iniesta. Iniesta will turn 33 in a few months and it is understandable why Barca have begun the search for a replacement given his age.
The Catalans were reportedly even considering a stunning swap deal with Real Madrid which would see Isco arrive at the Camp Nou with Ivan Rakitic going the other way. However, it is hard to see Real Madrid allowing such a talented player to join their bitter rivals.
Manchester City have also been linked with a move for Isco, who they have been targeting for several years now. The midfielder was even approached by City when Manuel Pellegrini – his former manager at Malaga – was in charge but opted to join Real Madrid instead.
City are looking to add some youth to their side and Isco would not only bring that but also his world class talent to the side. With David Silva also on the wrong side of 30, City could use a player who can replace him in the long term.
It seems more and more likely that the Spaniard will leave the Bernabeu this summer and one thing is for sure, there will be a huge battle between several clubs across Europe to acquire the services of the talented midfielder.
