Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is likely to be given a contract extension by manager Jose Mourinho.

According to Daniel Cutts of the Sun, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to reward Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera for his services by offering him a contract extension at the club.

The 27-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2014, and has gone on to become an influential figure for the Manchester outfit. While there were initial doubts as to whether or not Louis van Gaal was the one to sanction his transfer, he quickly proved to the fans of the club why he was signed from Athletic Bilbao.

After two decent seasons under the Dutchman at the club, Herrera has shown a remarkable improvement this term under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is known to be a huge fan of the player’s work-rate, and is the perfect fit for his system.

Due to a number of stellar performances from the big names this season, Herrera’s efforts have often gone unnoticed, but that hasn’t stopped from putting in tireless displays week in and week out.

Mourinho has gone on record to heap heavy praise on the midfielder, and has stated that he is not worried about bring other players in the limelight as long as it is beneficial for the club. The Portuguese also said that his attitude was the reason for him receiving a call-up to the Spain national team.

Herrera will enter the last year of his contract in the summer and Mourinho isn’t one to let go of one of his hardest working players. The report in the Sun states that the United manager will activate a one-year extension in his contract.

The player, too, should not have any qualms as he is receiving an adequate amount of game time that will nurture him into a probable world beater. Mourinho is known to be an adept man manager, and is mentorship may be pivotal in shaping the future for the Spanish midfielder.

The 27-year-old is also one of the most vocal players on the field for the club, and is already starting to make a case for being the captain of Manchester United in the future. Mourinho will undoubtedly have taken these aspects into consideration and will be looking to get pen to paper without any further ado.
