Shandong Luneng have denied rumours that suggest they are likely to make a move for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
In a statement on their official channel on Weibo, Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng have laughed off media reports linking them with a move for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
“Yikes! What a super competent agent we have. But Fabregas is not our cup of tea,” read the statement.
“Please, for God’s sake do not spread the fake news. Shandong Luneng will not buy another foreign player this season. Our coaching staff have already made elaborate arrangements for our foreign players,” it added.
There are still two weeks remaining on the Chinese Super League transfer window, which has seen the clubs linked with top names from Europe as well as America. Luneng were also reportedly in for the Chelsea midfielder, but have now blatantly denied the rumours and suggested that they are not looking to sign a single overseas player.
Fabregas has seen his role at Stamford Bridge diminish this term as manager Antonio Conte has opted to go for a central midfield pairing of new signing N’Golo Kante along with Serbian lynchpin Nemanja Matic.
The Spanish midfielder has been used as a super sub, and more often than not, has shown his worth with cameo appearances. He has been heavily praised by the manager, and despite not playing as much as he would have wanted, Fabregas has not thrown a tantrum, unlike how most players in his position would have done.
He has scored two goals in 16 league appearances this season, coming off the bench in Chelsea’s last six matches in the Premier League. The former Arsenal and Barcelona star was linked with a deadline day move to West Ham United, but it appeared that he did not want to leave the Blues.
Recent reports have even linked with a shock move back to Spain, but this time to Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid. Isco and James Rodriguez have been linked with moves away from the Sanitago Bernabeu, and Fabregas has been eyed as the man to fill in the void.
A move to China has also been talked about, but as of now Fabregas has his sights focused on winning the league with Chelsea.
