Juventus are planning a summer swoop for Domenico Berardi, with Chelsea showing an interest in the Sassuolo winger as well, as per reports.
Italian publication Calciomercato have revealed that Juventus have re-entered the fray to sign Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo and have a plan to land the winger at Turin in the summer. Premier League leaders Chelsea are showing interest in him too, while Liverpool have also been linked with the Italian.
Domenico Berardi is a player whose stock continues to rise, with the 22-year-old currently one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe. The Italy international progressed through the ranks at Sassuolo before becoming a regular with the senior team and has been impressing everyone with his exploits on the wings for I Neroverdi.
The highly rated youngster started his journey with Sassuolo well, as he recorded 31 goals and 16 assists in his first two campaigns to make a name for himself, before a somewhat underwhelming 2015/16 season saw him bag just 7 goals and 6 assists.
The numbers have been impressive again this season, with Berardi finding the back of the net 7 times in addition to 3 assists in just 11 appearances in all competitions, scoring a goal every 118 minutes. But, his progress has been halted by a cruel knee injury, which he took 6 months to recover from.
However, Berardi has made enough impression over the last four seasons to earn many admirers of his talents. His abilities can be utilised by several clubs across Europe, with the Italian possessing a clever change of pace while being ever so threatening from distance and in dead-ball situations.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Berardi recently, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly eyeing the 22-year-old as a top priority to add in attack. It goes without saying that Berardi’s acquisition will not only add qualitative depth to the Liverpool attack but the Italy international can also make a bid to become a regular starter for the Reds.
However, Juventus have been long-time admirers of Berardi and they are likely to be back in the market for him in the summer. And the Bianconeri have a plan to land him, with the Italian giants set to wait on opening transfer talks with Sassuolo until Berardi himself confirms that he wants the Juventus move.
This is after Berardi snubbed a move to Turin fearing he won’t get enough game time with the Serie A leaders. However, as he continues to grow a player of Berardi’s calibre could well make a case for himself to become a regular with Juventus.
Chelsea are also said to be in the running to sign Berardi, with Antonio Conte being a long-time admirer of the 22-year-old. Berardi, though, will find it tough to displace Eden Hazard in his favoured left wing slot, with the Belgian being such a key player for the Blues.
However, he has proven himself to be versatile and can play across all three forward positions. In that case, he can certainly challenge the likes of Pedro and Willian and become a long-term solution for Conte.
Berardi is one of the most exciting talents in the world right now, and is growing into a dangerous attacker. It now remains to be seen if Sassuolo can keep a hold of him, or if any of the three European heavyweights can do something about signing him in the summer.
