Manchester United and Chelsea target Moussa Dembele has insisted he is not distracted by the speculation surrounding his future.
According to ESPN, Dembele says he is more focused on his fitness and does not care about any rumours of a transfer away from Celtic Park. The striker missed two games with an injury and came off the bench against St. Johnstone to score a hat-trick and insisted after the game he was happy at Celtic.
“It’s easy not to get distracted. I’m a very calm kind of guy and I don’t really let this type of thing get in my head. I focus only on enjoying my football at Celtic and I’m very happy to be here. I don’t really listen to what has been said about me — I just try to get fit as quickly as possible and back on the pitch.”
The 20-year old, who joined Celtic from Fulham at the beginning of the season on a 4-year contract, has been in brilliant form this season and has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the world.
Dembele has scored 20 goals in 32 appearances for Celtic across all competitions this season, statistics which are hugely impressive for a player who is only 20 years old. A skillful dribbler with good finishing ability, Dembele caught the public eye after scoring a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this season as Celtic drew 3-3 with the Citizens.
Chelsea were linked with a surprise deadline-day move for the Under-21 French international, with the Blues said to be plotting a £40 million bid for the prolific forward. However, Celtic were unwilling to sell their star man mid-way through the season and Chelsea have since been resigned to wait until the summer to land their man.
Further reports also claimed that Dembele himself prefers a move to Manchester United or Paris-Saint Germain – the club he started his career at – and that Chelsea’s bid was far below Celtic’s valuation of the striker.
Either way, it looks like Dembele will almost certainly leave Celtic Park at the end of the season despite the man himself being unaffected by the speculation and whatever his destination may be, there is sure to be heavy competition between several top clubs for his signature.
