Everton are reportedly set to win the battle over Liverpool and Barcelona in the pursuit of Corinthians prodigy Caio Emerson.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum have reported that Everton are in the lead over their Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Spanish giants Barcelona to Corinthians prodigy Caio Emerson. The 17-year-old striker has been hailed as the next Neymar back in his homeland and could now be set to move to Europe, with the Toffees primed to land the teen sensation.

Caio Emerson is regarded as one of the hottest young properties in Brazil. The 17-year-old starred in Corinthians’ Under-17 league triumph last season, also ending up as the top scorer in his side’s triumph in the national Under-17 cup. He has since been tipped for a switch to Europe soon, with Manchester City and Barcelona circling around the player.

While City’s interest took a backseat, there were reports of a done deal between Corinthians and Barcelona that would see Emerson move to Spain as soon as he turns 18. The move though looked to have hit a snag, something which brought forth interest from the Merseyside duo of Everton and Liverpool.

Liverpool had been tipped to move for the teen, but it seems the Toffees have beaten their local rivals to the 17-year-old. Caio’s contract with Corinthians is up for expiry in the summer of 2017, so Everton could very well be landing the star for as little as £250,000.

Under former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, Everton seem intent on buying future superstars with the ability to be in an around the first-team squad from the get-go. The Toffees have already secured the signing of English teen sensation Ademola Lookman and it looks like they are ready to add another exciting young forward to their ranks.

The Toffees also have the likes of Tom Davies, Mason Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Kieran Dowell who have all made the grade at Goodison Park, and it looks like the Merseyside blues have a lot of teenage prospects to look forward to.

Liverpool are in need of a forward and would be gutted to lose out on a player who has been billed as the next best attacking Brazilian prodigy, that too to their local rivals Everton.

Caio Emerson would be pumped to prove his mettle in Europe, especially in the Premier League, which is hailed as the most competitive and cut-throat league in European football.
