Luis Enrique calls for continued excellence to reach Barcelona targets this season

Luis Enrique urged his side to continue improving and embark on a winning run to reach their targets as Barcelona thumped Eibar 4-0 on Sunday night.

Barcelona visited to Ipurua Municipal Park on Sunday to take on Eibar, aiming to keep pace with La Liga title rivals Real Madrid and Sevilla. After both sides won their respective encounters on the weekend, the pressure was on Luis Enrique’s men to match those results to avoid losing ground in the title race.

Enrique’s side did just that, as they dismantled the hosts in clinical fashion to win 4-0, thanks to a maiden Barcelona goal from Denis Suarez as well as some neat finishes from the famed trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

The match saw Denis Suarez score his first goal for Barcelona after coming on for the injured Sergio Busquets early on in the first half. The first-half ended with a 1-0 scoreline but the second half saw the Catalan giants slot in three more goals to make the scoreline more comfortable.

Post the match, Luis Enrique called for more improvements from his side, as he urged his charges to achieve their targets by creating a winning momentum in order to heap the pressure on Real Madrid and Sevilla.

As reported by ESPN, Enrique told reporters: “I’m referring to results when I say about wanting a change in dynamic. I have always been happy with what my team has done, but [a run of good results] always makes everything flow more smoothly and the players have more confidence.”

“We’re looking for that run. We’re [starting] one [now] and I hope that it will be the start of a good run that allows us to close in on the top positions in La Liga. But we’re still a long way from what’s needed in order to be where we want to be.”

Barcelona next face Real Sociedad in the return leg of the Copa Del Rey quarter-final, when they will be looking to cash in on the one-goal lead that they established in last week’s first leg at the Anoeta, and get themselves into the final four of the prestigious tournament.
