Chelsea have approached fellow Premier League side Middlesbrough over the availability of winger Adama Traore.
According to Sky Sports, Spanish winger Adama Traore has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League leaders Chelsea. The Blues have reportedly made an an enquiry for the winger and Middlesbrough are expected to reply in due course as to whether or not they are willing to let go of the 20-year-old wonderkid.
At a tender age of 8, Traore joined the Barcelona youth setup after a brief stint with native side L’Hospitalet. After joining La Masia, Traore improved his performances, and was promoted to the Barcelona B-Team in 2013.
Things escalated quickly for the then 17-year-old as he saw himself named in the first-team matchday squad two months later. On November 23rd, 2013, the Spanish sensation replaced Brazilian Neymar to make his senior debut for the Catalan Giants.
Till date, that is Traore’s only La Liga appearance as his remaining three matches came in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. With only four first-team matches to his name and no guarantee over consistent playing time, the Spaniard decided to part ways with one of Europe’s elite clubs.
He joined Aston Villa last summer for a reported £7 million, but a buyback clause in his contract was added by Barcelona. However, the La Masia graduate failed to have an impact at Villa Park and was dropped from the side midway through the season due to a lack of discipline.
Having nothing to do with him, former Villa coach Roberto di Matteo sold the player to newly-promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough. The 20-year-old told Mundo Deportivo that he was excited to prolong his stay in England’s top flight and was hoping not to dwell over his highly disappointing stint at Aston Villa.
While he has looked threatening for Boro this term, he has still failed to score a goal or register an assist. The former Barcelona man has made 14 league appearances this season, and has not quite impressed manager Aitor Karanka of a regular first-team berth.
However, still only 20, the sky is the limit for the player who has a massive potential. A move to Chelsea could escalate his stature and quality as he will be playing with a better crop of players that will help him grow as a professional,
It will be a tough task to break into the first team, but he could make the most of cup appearances and could also feature in some league matches. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is known to bring the best out of his players, and he could do the same with Traore.
