Transfer News: John Terry offered upto £12 million to swap Chelsea FC for Shanghai Shenhua

Chelsea captain John Terry is being offered a lucrative deal to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

According to Tim Rich of the Independent, John Terry is unlikely to be offered a new contract at the end of the season, and is being handed a lifeline by Shanghai Shenhua. The Chinese club may tempt him into signing for them by offering him a lucrative deal that could see him earn £12 million per year.

The news of Terry being linked with a move to China has come only days after Oscar confirmed that a move to the country is in the pipeline. The Brazilian has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and Shanghai SIPG manager Andre Villas Boas has made an offer in the region of £52 million for the 24-year-old.

Should Terry follow Oscar’s footsteps and move to the Chinese Super League, he will become the first Englishman to do so. Former Manchester United star Carlos Tevez will also be plying his trade with Shenhua and Terry’s addition could see the Chinese side make inroads toward building a solid team.

With Shanghai set to play their Champions League qualifier in the month of February, Terry will be required to join them on the 8th of February as part of a training camp, building up to the top club competition in the continent.

Their new manager Gus Poyet worked with Terry at Chelsea and is understood to share a good relationship with the Blues captain. He is keen on bringing the 35-year-old to Chelsea while negotiations for Tevez also seem to be in the final stages.

There also are strong links between the two clubs as Shenhua have already signed a trio of Chelsea players in the last few years. The likes of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Demba Ba have all switched from Stamford Bridge to the Hongkou Football Stadium, and Terry might be the next in line.

Even last season, Terry was on the radar of Evergrande head-coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, but the Chelsea captain decided to see out his contract in England. Now that it is done, a move to China is looking more likely with each passing day.
