Arsenal are reportedly open to the idea of selling contract rebel Mesut Ozil and are prepared to listen to offers for the talisman.

The Telegraph are claiming that Arsenal are now willing to listen to offers for superstar Mesut Ozil. The Gunners have been deadlocked in negotiations with the German and his representatives over a new deal, and it looks like they are now open to the idea of selling the player if he fails to lower his demands.

Ozil was bought from Real Madrid by Arsenal in 2013, and has gone on to become an integral figure in the first-team setup at Emirates. The play-maker posted the best figures of his career in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign with 6 goals and a staggering 19 assists to his name.

The creator seems to have taken up the responsibility of finishing too this time around, with 8 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season. Ozil is currently embroiled in talks over a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2018.

Ozil currently earns £140,000 per-week, but the 28-year-old is asking for wages similar to what Paul Pogba earns at Manchester United. This has put his contract talks on hold, as Arsenal are not ready grant Ozil’s demands. Recent reports are stating that the club is prepared to offload or even run his contract down if the player persists with his wage demands.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to his former club, Real Madrid, while also being linked with a sensational switch to Arsenal’s rivals, Manchester United. The likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid have a higher ceiling in their wage structure and would happily grant the player’s wish of increased wages.

By the looks of it, Arsenal too seem to be prepared to cash in on the player if the right offer comes along. Agreeing to his demands would mean breaking the wage structure, something which could encourage other squad players to ask for better terms as well.

Arsene Wenger has recently said that he would rather let Ozil and Sanchez run their contracts down and let them leave for free, but Arsenal may decide to cash in on the player in a bid to recoup most of their investment in Ozil. It will be intriguing to see how this all pans out but the top European clubs would be lurking in the shadows to pounce on the opportunity and secure the services of a superstar like Mesut Ozil.
