Chelsea’s Eden Hazard expresses desire to win Player Of The Year at the cost of the Golden Boot

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard recently spoke about his side’s title chances this season, and his desire to reclaim the Player Of The Year award

The duo have scored a total of 19 Premier League goals in the 14 games they’ve played together this season, with Costa getting 11 and Hazard 8. However, Costa has 5 assists this season to Hazard’s 1. But Hazard insisted that the numbers don’t matter to him, and was happy to let his Spanish teammate win the Golden Boot.

According to The Telegraph, while speaking about his goal tally this season, Hazard said “It’s not bad is it? But I always say to Diego that he can become the top scorer. If I get the chance to score a goal, I will take it. But he can become the top scorer if I can win the trophy of the best player.”

It should come as no surprise that the former Lille attacker wants to reclaim the title he lost to Riyad Mahrez last season, as it was only the third campaign in his senior career, at the end of which he didn’t win the Player Of The Year, or Young Player Of The Year awards.

However, the Belgian captain made no promises regarding Chelsea’s form and chose to not get carried away, saying “We can laugh about it now, but we’ll see. Diego is performing on a high level, we are scoring a lot of goals. We are strong as a team, we are together and that’s very good,” he said.

Hazard’s 90th minute finish at the Etihad was his 61st goal for the club in all competitions, and his 49th in the Premier League, but the 25-year-old insisted that the team’s results took precedence over individual accolades.

“Records have never been important for me. The only thing that interests me is winning the title at the end of the season. Man City are title contenders and we won. We are satisfied,” he said.

Hazard said, that they would now go on to try and win next week’s game against West Brom and that they were just ‘taking their moments’. He insisted that his side were always competing for the title, before adding “We are in a good position right now, but let’s see. We are trying.”

The duo were an integral part of Chelsea’s last Premier League winning campaign, during which they also won the Capital One Cup.

After a disastrous last campaign which saw Jose Mourinho and Chelsea’s medical staff get sacked and the Chelsea faithful turning on the players, Antonio Conte has seemed to have brought the good times back to Stamford Bridge, whilst bringing Hazard and Costa back to their dangerous best.

Stamford Bridge is noticeably a few decibels louder this term and with good reason, Chelsea are now 3 points clear at the top of the table and seem unstoppable at this rate.

With a relatively easy set of fixtures awaiting them this month, Chelsea have a great chance of extending and maintaining their current lead on top of the table and one can be sure that Costa and Hazard will be relishing the opportunity to add to their respective goal tallies.
