Transfer News: PSG set to make improved offer of €20m to sign Chelsea and Juventus target Thiago Maia

Paris Saint-Germain are set to offer €20m to Santos in order to land Thiago Maia, who is also on the radar of Chelsea and Juventus

As per Italian publication Calciomercato, Paris Saint-Germain are now prepared to make an improved offer in order to secure the services of Brazilian wonderkid Thiago Maia. The defensive midfielder, who is currently plying his trade for Brazilian outfit Santos, has been on the radar of Chelsea and Juventus, but the French giants now seem favourites to land the 19-year-old.

Thiago Maia has been one of the pillars for Santos, who currently sit second on the table in the league. The youngster has played 28 games for the side in the league, starting all of them in his preferred role as defensive midfielder, and has really impressed in his outings.

The player has already been linked with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, who has been reported to be in talks with the player’s representatives and officials of Santos. Juventus have also been interested in the player’s services with Paris Saint-Germain linked only recently.

Calciomercato had reported earlier that Paris Saint-Germain had taken a lead on their competitors in the pursuit of Thiago Maia. Now, as per fresh reports, Paris Saint-Germain are ready to offer Santos a transfer fee upto €20m in order to trump other suitors.

While Chelsea have been linked with a €15m bid for the player, Juventus are prepared to offer a fee in and around the €10m mark, which could hand Paris Saint-Germain a decisive advantage in Maia’s pursuit. Santos, who reportedly own 60% of Maia’s rights, would pocket €12m, in case they do end up accepting PSG’s €20m offer.

Paris Saint-Germain could also provide the 19-year-old a better opportunity in establishing himself in Europe than others with a dearth in the squad for anchor men in the holding midfield position. While Thiago Motta is now 34 and entering the final stages of his career, Matuidi has been linked with a move away from the French giants, which could make room for Thiago Maia.

It would be interesting to see if Juventus or Chelsea are able to make up the yards upto Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Thiago Maia or admit defeat in the pursuit of the 19-year-old.
