Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer Cesc Fabregas plus €50m in order to land Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.
Italian publication Football Italia have claimed that Chelsea are prepared to test Paris Saint-Germain’s resolve for their star midfielder Marco Verratti. The Blues are ready to offer cash to the tune of €50m along with seemingly out-of-favour midfielder Cesc Fabregas in return for the Italian international.
Marco Verratti has slowly become one of the key ingredients of the Paris Saint-Germain setup after completing his move from Italy years ago. The 24-year-old has started this season in fine form as well, with 2 goals to show for his efforts in 9 Ligue 1 appearances thus far.
Rumours had circulated in recent times, of Chelsea’s interest in Verratti and an update has now been provided by the media. A major part of the rumours are also down to the Italian connection at Chelsea with Antonio Conte at the helm at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian is thought to be fond of Verratti’s talents and has earmarked the midfielder to be a part of his Blue revolution at Chelsea. And now, as per sources in Italy, Chelsea are ready to offer Cesc Fabregas in exchange for the player along with a whopping amount of €50m.
Cesc Fabregas has seen his role dilute from being a key squad member during Jose Mourinho’s reign to being on the fringes under Antonio Conte. The Spaniard has impressed in the selective chances provided to him by Conte, but 87 minutes of Premier League football out of a possible 990 is more than underwhelming for the former Arsenal midfielder.
And now, this move could serve as a mutual benefit for all the parties involved. Fabregas would be able to secure a move to another club where he could get more playing time compared to what he has currently while Chelsea would be able to sign Verratti for a subsidised amount by offering Fabregas in return.
It would be interesting if Paris Saint-Germain would be able to let go of the prized asset that is Marco Verratti. One thing, though, is certain that Chelsea will not give up without trying.
