Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer for Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, who was the subject of Chelsea interest during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old French defender is a product of PSG’s youth academy. Since 2005, Kimpembe has progressed through the youth ranks of the French giants and has now emerged as one of Europe’s hottest prospects.

The Frenchman made his senior debut in 2014 against RC Lens and has managed to make 18 first-team appearances since then. Kimpembe was also a target for Chelsea in the summer transfer window, before they opted to sign David Luiz on deadline day.

Italian media outlet Calciomercato report that Liverpool have set their sights on the youngster and will try and make an offer for him in 2017. Liverpool are reportedly preparing to offload Mamadou Sakho, after the former PSG man fell out of favour with Jurgen Klopp. The Reds are also on the hunt for a left-back, so Kimpembe, who has previously played in that position for PSG, would be a very good long-term option for the club.

The Calciomercato report states that Liverpool will only make an offer for Kimpembe next summer and not in December, as PSG would refuse to listen to any offers for their future star in the winter transfer window. Unai Emery’s willingness to let David Luiz leave shows just how much he rates the youngster.

The French starlet has made 8 appearances for PSG this season alone, only one short of the 9 appearances he made in the entirety of last season. However, he is reportedly unwilling to extend his contract which runs until 2018.

These are troubled times at the Parc des Prince, with the Ligue 1 champions currently in 3rd place behind AS Monaco and OGC Nice. Tougher domestic competition, combined with the fact that Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Serge Aurier have all been linked with moves abroad, suggests that the Parisians would be unwilling to let any of their star prospects leave.
