Firmino insists too early to talk about Liverpool title challenge, praises Coutinho and Mane

Roberto Firmino discussed Liverpool’s title ambitions and his chemistry with his teammates.

The Brazilian has been in fine form this season, with 5 goals in 11 games. His partners in attack, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane, have scored 5 in 11 and 4 in 10 respectively. It is this sharing of goal-scoring responsibility that currently sees Liverpool sitting 3rd in the table, tied on points with both Arsenal and league leaders Manchester City.

Firmino himself is pleased with how things are going, and was full of praise for his teammates.

“We think the same way,” Firmino told Liverpool.com “We know what we’re going to do before possessing the ball. We always understand each other in the games and with our skill everything turned out well.”

“Philippe is a magician, who makes magic in each shot, who is always helping with scoring goals and his incredible moves.”

Liverpool have been installed as second favourites to win the Premier League this season, having won seven of their opening ten fixtures.

Many figures in the sport also feel that this Liverpool have what it takes to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title, with Jurgen Klopp being hailed for changing the style of play and attitude of the players.

Firmino, however, feels it is much too early for such talk.

“We have achieved nothing yet. If we do not continue on this track until the end of the season, no-one will remember us and we will not achieve anything,” he said.

The striker is not wrong about that, but Klopp’s men have been very impressive this season. Having already played Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea, the Reds have only lost one game, a 2-0 defeat to Burnley. A 9 point return against four of their fellow title challengers is a respectable amount, and with no European obligations, the Reds have a less crowded fixture schedule than their rivals.

We broke down Liverpool’s title challenge this season earlier in the week, and if Klopp’s team can keep up the performances they have been putting in, there is no reason they cannot go the distance.
