Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly readying shock bids in an attempt to secure the signature of out-of-favour Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero
Spanish publication Don Balon have sensationally claimed that the Premier League trio of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are ready to pounce on the opportunity to secure a transfer for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who looks to be on his way out with reports of rift emerging between the player and the manager.
Sergio Aguero is a name that has terrorised Premier League defences in the past few seasons. The Argentine has been the kingmaker, if you will, for Manchester City and the king-slayer, for others like City’s cross-town rivals Manchester United.
However, the forward has had his bad moments. Marred by injuries of late, City’s new boss Pep Guardiola seems to have not taken a liking to the striker’s playing style. Aguero is an out-and-out striker, who performs his duties with aplomb.
But, due to being such a striker, he often lacks the ability to track back and pressurize the opposition to win back possession, something which is a crucial part of Guardiola’s tactics. The former Barcelona manager has seen his side’s brilliant run arrested by a 0-2 result against Tottenham and the Citizens have since gone six games without a win in all competitions.
Reports of rift have since emerged between Guardiola and Aguero with the Spaniard even saying that the Argentine is free to leave, if he wants. Even though Pep later on redeemed himself by saying that he did not mean that he wanted the striker to leave and that what he wanted to infer was that the striker was free to move to another club, if he so desires.
And now, Don Balon are reporting that Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are all ready to offer Sergio Aguero a chance to stay in England and prove Guardiola wrong. A striker of Aguero’s skill set would be an instant upgrade to any of the three clubs’ current options and is likely to hand them an edge in the title race.
While Arsenal have been seen deploying Alexis Sanchez as the lone forward, who, even though has done a brilliant job, is not a natural forward, Tottenham seem to be struggling to find an able partner for Harry Kane, with Janssen yet to get going.
Chelsea, too, have their own set of problems up-front. Batshuayi has failed to impress while Diego Costa, although in sublime form, has been linked with a move back to his former club Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer.
The report stated that, in addition to the Premier League trio, European heavyweights Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the Argentine’s situation and could pounce on the opportunity to sign the striker, who, when fit, is one of the most lethal forwards in the footballing world.
Aguero failed to sizzle after coming on in the second half as City lost the Manchester derby 1-0 to bow out of the EFL Cup and it looks like the Argentine’s time under Guardiola is numbered. But, as Don Balon report, Manchester City’s loss could turn out to be any of the Premier League trio’s gain.
