Bastian Schweinsteiger was banished by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho without even playing a game under him. In the wake of United’s Premier League woes, two of his former international teammates have called for him to be recalled to the team.

The Red Devils slumped to their third Premier League defeat of the season as the Blues beat them 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. Manager Jose Mourinho has come under fire for his team selection, and the club can’t seem to get the best out of their numerous top quality players.

While Chelsea were 3-0 up against United, former German international and Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski reminded Mourinho of a possible solution to the problem.

Another one of Schweinstieger’s compatriots has now spoken up about the issue. Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer is considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world. He believes that his former teammate deserves to be in the first team, considering the club’s current dip in form.

“I really hope Bastian gets some consideration soon,” Neuer said, according to the Guardian.

“We all know he’s one of the best midfielders in the world. He belongs on the field for Manchester United and not training individually.”

Bastian Schweinsteiger was banished to the Manchester United reserve team by Jose Mourinho even before he took charge of his first competitive game. The 32-year-old was brought in by former manager Louis van Gaal the previous summer, but had an injury-hit first season at United.

In fact, injury problems have plagued him for the last few years, even prompting him to retire from international football recently. It seems like Schweinsteiger is no longer the player he used to be, despite the opinions of his friend and former teammates.

The German midfielder is trying his best to get back into the first team though. He has even stated previously that Manchester United would be the last European team he will ever play for. However, it’s highly unlikely that the steadfast Mourinho will recall a player who he has already deemed unworthy of a place in the squad.
