The Italian Champions are reportedly interested in one of Chelsea’s brightest young talents, Andreas Christensen.
Mere days ago it was reported that La Liga Champions Barcelona were preparing to make a £20 million bid for the young Dane, after he put in a stellar shift against them in the Champions League. But now reports emerged that he is being monitored by another European giant in Juventus.
Italian publication Calciomercato report that the Biaconeri have joined Barcelona in monitoring the 20-year-old center back after his mercurial rise during his ongoing two year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach. After joining Die Fohlen in the summer of 2015, he’s been in superb form in the heart of their defence and has grown on to become one the most important players of this exciting young side.
At Gladbach, Christensen is used to playing at the heart of a three man defence, which would suit Juventus perfectly. The Italian giants have used a 3 central defenders at the back system even after the departure of Antonio Conte and it has continued to pay dividends.
Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli have together formed one of the greatest defensive partnerships in the history of the Italian game and replacing them will prove to be a daunting task.
With Barzagli approaching 36 years of age and Bonucci strongly linked with a move away from Turin, reinforcements are required more than ever and the young Christensen could be a perfect fit for Massimiliano Allegri’s men. However, given the current sad state of Chelsea’s defence and Antonio Conte’s penchant for playing 3 at the back, it is highly unlikely that the Blues will let such a promising player leave for any price.
The Blues are desperate for young quality reinforcements to their defence and Christensen’s arrival next year is being looked forward to by many of the Blues’ faithful and he is considered to be a part of the solution to Chelsea’s defensive problems.
John Terry is approaching the tail-end of his career, while Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill have continued to disappoint this season. David Luiz’s arrival was never expected to fix much while it is yet to be seen how well Kurt Zouma has recovered from his injury physically and mentally.
Andreas Christensen’s desire for first team football upon his Stamford Bridge return would have been fulfilled this season itself, but then Conte and the fans will have to wait for another season before they get to see the big Dane strut his stuff in Chelsea colours.
