Manchester United are reportedly keen on Jamaican wing prodigy Leon Bailey who currently plays his football for Belgian club Genk
ESPN have claimed that Manchester United are eyeing a deal for young Jamaican attacker Leon Bailey. The 19-year-old Genk wonderkid is highly rated across Europe and the Red Devils are reportedly monitoring the winger with a view to analyse the prospect’s potential and abilities.
Leon Bailey’s star has been on the rise from a long time as Daily Mail claim that the player rejected offers from the likes of Chelsea and Ajax in favour of a move to Belgium Pro League side Genk. The 19-year-old was announced Belgian League’s Young Player of the Year for the last season and seems to have hit the ground running this year as well.
The player was already known for his electric pace and dribbling skills and it seems the player has started to add goals to his repertoire with five goals already to his name this season.
Manchester United had sent two of their representatives, including chief scout Jim Lawlor, in order to monitor the player in the Europa League match against Sassuolo, and they would not have been disappointed as the 19-year-old scored in his side’s 3-1 win on Thursday night.
United had previously scouted the player in Genk’s match against Rapid Vienna when he scored a brace, but could not stop his side from losing the match 3-2 in a close encounter.
ESPN’s report also added that the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have also kept tabs on the player’s progress, with Chelsea keen to bring the player to Stamford Bridge, having failed in the first place as Bailey chose Genk.
The video below highlights just why the 19-year-old is so highly regarded as a top talent in European football right now:
Leon Bailey’s performances have also seen the player’s name being included in the 40-players strong final shortlist of Golden Boy award for 2016, which includes Manchester United’s teenage superstar Marcus Rashford.
The Jamaican’s stock has been on a constant rise and could see himself earning a transfer to the illustrious Premier League, with Manchester United poised to steal a march on their fellow rivals.
