Arsenal are reportedly preparing a bumper new contract for Hector Bellerin in order to ward off potential suitors Barcelona and Manchester City.
The Daily Mirror have claimed that Arsenal are preparing a new contract offer for Spain international Hector Bellerin in an attempt to secure the player’s long-term future at the club. The 21-year-old has grown to become one of the best right-backs in Europe since joining the Londoners from Barcelona, and has started attracting the interest of Barcelona and Manchester City.
The duo are reportedly prepared to test Arsenal’s resolve in January or at the end of the season. As such, the Gunners aim to offer Bellerin a new deal to convince him to stay at the club. The Mirror reports that the 21-year-old, who has three years left on his current contract, is likely to be offered a new five-year contract with a significant pay rise compared to his current wages.
There had been hints of a new deal at the end of last season, but no further developments had since been reported until now. Rumours that Manchester City established contact with Bellerin over the summer would have given Arsenal a wake up call and they are now willing to push full steam ahead in order to secure a contract extension for the Spaniard.
Arsenal are hoping a good season and a significant pay rise would be able to convince the ambitious 21-year-old to stick with the North Londoners. It is reported that the Gunners have already sounded out Bellerin’s representatives over the new contract, with talks expected to begin after the defender returns from the international break.
Hector Bellerin has established himself as an undisputed first choice in the Gunners’ defence and has, up until now, played each and every minute of the club’s Premier League and Champions League campaign this season.
Arsenal fans would also hope the 21-year-old decides to commit his long-term future to the club as the Spaniard would be a world class option in the right-back position for the next decade.
