Chelsea captain John Terry has lauded Sir Alex Ferguson and the former Manchester United manager’s influence on his hugely successful football career.
It is well known that Sir Alex Ferguson is widely respected by almost every rival player, fan and manager in the footballing world given what the Scot has achieved throughout his managerial career. Only a few in footballing history have managed to stay at one club for as long as Ferguson and be as successful as him.
Chelsea captain John Terry can now be added to that list as he uploaded an instagram post as a throwback to a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson when the former England international was just 14. Terry added in the post that he has massive respect for the Scot and would always be respectful of the influence the United icon has had on his career.
Terry revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson served as an inspiration to him, which played a pivotal part in what has been a remarkable career for the Chelsea captain.
This is not the first time Terry has spoken about Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson, as he had earlier revealed in an interview to The Observer, Guardian that he was actually a Manchester United fan growing up and had the chance to sign for the Red Devils. However, he chose Chelsea over the Red Devils and a host of other clubs.
What a career the 35-year-old has gone on to have! A mammoth 486 Premier League appearances for the Blues and the Chelsea captain is on course to add more as he has entered his 19th season. He will no doubt hope to add to his 4 Premier League and 5 FA Cup trophies as well.
Terry’s comments highlight the influence Sir Alex Ferguson had and the inspiration he provided — not just for Manchester United and the players and staff there, but for all of the Premier League.
