Ajax youngster Anwar El Ghazi has been reportedly offered to AC Milan by his agent.
According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan have been offered the services of Ajax’s 21-year-old Anwar El Ghazi by the player’s agent Jorge Mendes, who manages big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho. The report states that Mendes proposed the player to AC Milan recently and the Rossoneri are contemplating a move for the player they had scouted extensively in January.
El Ghazi joined Ajax from Sparta Rotterdam in July 2013 but had to wait till the season opener of 2014-15 season to make his senior debut for the club. The 21-year-old has since established himself at Ajax and is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in both Eredivisie and Europe.
El Ghazi has been a regular feature in the Ajax squad for the past two seasons playing 58 Eredevisie matches for the club during the period. The Dutch youngster has amassed an impressive tally of 20 goals and 10 assists in two seasons for Ajax in the league and was rightly named as the club’s Talent of the Year for 2015 (stats via whoscored).
The 21-year-old’s performances have attracted the interest of Liverpool, Lazio, Wolfsburg and Leicester City earlier in the summer. The new Ajax manager Bosz might want to keep the player as they are currently short on numbers in the squad, but reportedly admitted that he might be helpless to stop the player.
El Ghazi is renowned for his ability to dribble at a tremendous pace while keeping himself balanced and has a good cross on him. The 21-year-old is prone to being fouled a lot owing to his dribbling ability and is a sizeable threat on indirect and direct set-pieces. The player, though, has been found wanting in a couple of areas – discipline and defensive contribution – and AC Milan are now considering whether the squad has room for a player of his qualities right now.
The Rossoneri were rumoured to be after Chelsea’s Juan Cuadrado and if they are indeed looking for a winger, Anwar El Ghazi would hit the brief while also having a better re-sale value than Cuadrado, the Dutch winger being younger of the two. AC Milan could look to seal a deal as soon as possible before any of the other interested clubs table an offer to Ajax as Anwar El Ghazi looks to turn a new leaf in his professional career.
