Arsenal have reportedly had a £30m bid rejected for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and are preparing a fresh offer of £35m.

L’Equipe journalist GillesFavard has sensationally claimed on Wednesday that Leicester City have rejected a £30m bid from Arsenal for superstar Riyad Mahrez. Favard also added that the Algerian has told the Foxes he wants a move to Arsenal as the Gunners prepare to come back and table a £35m offer for the winger.

As the Tweets suggest, Favard stated that Wenger has prioritized the signing of Riyad Mahrez. The news comes a day after 101greatgoals.com ran a story that Riyad Mahrez wants a move away from Leicester City, citing Eurosport France’s journalist Ilyes Ramdani’s twitter account as the source. The journalist, through his tweets, mentioned that the Algerian international has made his wish to join Arsenal, known to Leicester. He added that he respects the club massively and would not force or strong-arm the Foxes into agreeing to a sale. Ramdani added that Mahrez and his contingent had left the job of agreeing a fee to Leicester and are likely to stay out of it.

The Arsenal-Mahrez transfer news has stretched on for quite a while now with conflicting reports each day. Arsenal were rumoured to be close to signing the Algerian international a few days ago with reports claiming he was due to join the Gunners soon. However, Claudio Ranieri has maintained his stance and was confident that Riyad Mahrez would stay with the Premier League champions this summer.

One would wonder if the fresh reports are evidence of some real progress on the transfer front or just pure speculation akin to the recent past. If, however, this turns out to be true, it would be music to the ears of the Arsenal faithful who have been waiting  for their club to sign star players; this approach would go a long way to prove that Arsenal have finally paid attention to their wishes.

The transfer, if it goes through, would also provide a boost to Arsene Wenger’s title ambitions this season, which has become more crucial with the French manager citing that he shall decide his future at Emirates based upon the club’s performance this season.
