Transfer News: Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah seals permanent move to AS Roma

Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah has finally made his move to AS Roma permanent after impressing during his loan spell last season.

Chelsea have confirmed, through the official website, that Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has completed his permanent move to Serie A club AS Roma. Salah had spent the last season on loan at the Serie A club and Roma, impressed by the winger’s performance, decided to activate the €15m clause inserted in the loan deal to make the move permanent.

A statement on the Chelsea website read,“Chelsea Football Club thanks Mohamed for his service and wishes him well for the future.”

Salah joined Chelsea from Swiss club Basel ahead of the 2014-15 season but spent the second part of it on loan at Fiorentina. The Egyptian then joined AS Roma on a season-long loan at the start of the 2015-16 season, a move that saw Fiorentina complain to the governing body for alleged breach of contract by Chelsea but the Blues were later cleared of any wrongdoing in the deal.

The signing has been hailed as a great piece of business for AS Roma by the twitterati, backed by statistics, while the fans criticized Chelsea’s transfer dealings.

The Egyptian shined for the Serie A club with 14 goals and 6 assists to his name and was the highest scoring winger in the league helping Roma to a third place finish (stats via whoscored). Roma would hope Salah would pick up from where he left off as they look to maintain or rather improve on their finish last season.
