Chelsea has had a €60 million bid for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata rejected by Real Madrid.

It was reported a few days ago that Chelsea had raced ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in the pursuit of Alvaro Morata. The Spanish international was brought back by Real Madrid for a fee reported to be around €31 million and Los Blancos are expected to sell the striker this very summer to any of the interested clubs who meet his asking price.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have all been reported to be interested in the striker, but it is Chelsea who are most likely to meet Real Madrid’s valuation of the player. The Gunners have since turned their attention to Olympique Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, Atletico is targeting Carlos Bacca and Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester United has acquired Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so it is unlikely that they will pursue Morata any further.

According to MARCA, Chelsea had offered €60 million for Morata, but Real Madrid rejected it. Morata’s agent was reported to be at the Santiago Bernabeu looking to push for a transfer if a bid anywhere between €60 to €75 million was offered. But Real Madrid has priced their Castilla graduate at €75 million and hasn’t budged on its stance after Chelsea’s initial offer.

The report states that the dominance of Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema doesn’t guarantee Morata a starting position in the team and that is one of the factors contributing to his move away from the club. It further states that Antonio Conte’s insistence on having the striker at Stamford Bridge will play a huge role in his transfer. The Italian is said to have spoken to Morata after Spain’s loss to Italy in the knockout rounds of European Championship and the prospect of being a part of Conte’s Stamford Bridge revolution is one that may excite the young striker.

The 46-year old ex-Azzurri coach had convinced Morata to make the switch from the Bernabeu to the Biaconeri in 2014, but was unable to work with him after leaving Juventus to take over at the Italian national team. But now Abramovich seems to be willing to fulfill his manager’s desire by bringing the 23-year old to Chelsea to team up with either Diego Costa or Michy Batshuayi up front. Chelsea will need all the quality they can possibly manage to buy in order to get back to challenging for trophies in England. It is unlikely they will give up in their pursuit for Morata anytime soon.
