Talented Real Madrid youngster Sergio Diaz has admitted his dream is to one day play for Premier League club Arsenal.
Sergio Ismael Díaz Velázquez is only the second Paraguayan to sign for Real Madrid after forward Javier Acuna. The 18-year-old will be a part of Castilla – Real Madrid’s B team – after joining the club from Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteno.
Even though Real Madrid are yet to officially unveil their new signing, Diaz took to Instagram to confirm the transfer.
The 18-year-old spoke to MARCA as he landed in Madrid to sign a 6-year-contract with the Spanish giants.
“I have come to the most powerful club in the world to help and to show my talent, I will put in every possible effort to do this right,” the Paraguayan told MARCA.
Diaz is reportedly closing in on a move to Serie A club AS Roma on a season-long loan as he confirmed the move in an interview to RGS Radio as per Metro.
“My future? I am told my transfer to Roma is all but done. At the moment it is still very quiet. I do not know when I will leave for Italy but, in essence, my move to Roma has been confirmed.”
The 18-year-old is a boyhood Arsenal fan and even though he is close to securing a season-long loan to AS Roma, the forward didn’t hide his dream to one day play for Arsenal.
“My dream is to play for Arsenal, which I’ve had since I was a child,” he said to RGS Radio.
The former Cerro Porteno academy ace has made 62 senior appearances for the Primera División Paraguaya side, scoring 15 goals in the process.
Arsenal are in need of attacking options, but as manager Arsene Wenger would be chasing an experienced and world-class striker to partner Olivier Giroud, Sergio Diaz’s dream of playing for Arsenal would have to be put on hold for a while. The 18-year-old will be looking to gather some experience of European football with Serie A outfit AS Roma, and hoping that Arsenal take note of his performances in Italy.
