Transfer News : Real Madrid receive blow in Payet pursuit as agent tips star to stay at West Ham

Real Madrid have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of French superstar Dimitri Payet.

Dimitri Payet, who is preparing for France’s Euro 2016 quarter-final against an in-form Iceland, is set to refute offers from big clubs to stay at West Ham this summer, according to his agent.

The West Ham winger’s long-term adviser, Jacques-Oliver Auguste, told the Guardian it is unlikely that his client will be on the move in the current transfer window. “He has a great contract with West Ham so I cannot see him leaving. Dimitri is happy in London,” he said. “You never know in football but only West Ham know what price they want if they decide to sell him.”

Dimitri Payet had recently signed a new contract with the Hammers in February, worth £125,000 per week in a deal that is due to expire next in 2021. The winger moved to West Ham last summer from Marseille in a £10.7M deal and was an instant success for the London outfit. He registered 9 goals and 12 assists in 30 league appearances for the club. Payet was also nominated for the PFA player of the Year award for his impact in the league.

The West Ham winger seems to have continued that form into the Euros for France, scoring two crucial goals and recording an assist in his 4 appearances in the European Championship. The French fans would be hoping Payet continues his form throughout the Euros, if the hosts are to have a genuine shot at grabbing the trophy.

Dimitri Payet’s performance has seen many top clubs registering their interest. Inter Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have all been reportedly interested in the Frenchman. But, Real Madrid have been the club most strongly linked to Payet, with ITV and many other media outlets reporting the Spanish giants’ interest in the French star.

The French superstar’s future is a long way from being sorted as there is still time for the transfer window to unfold. Even though Madrid are famous for getting who they really want, for now, indicators suggest that Payet is likely to stay in London rather than moving.
