According to reports, Chelsea have reignited their interest in Fenerbahce’s Simon Kjaer.
The Turkish giants have slapped a £15.4m price tag on their Danish defender, according to Fanatik (via Goal). Kjaer has had an impressive season in Turkey after arriving in the summer of 2015 for a fee of €7.65m, after spending 2 years in Lille.
Simon Kjaer has been a long term target for the club, having been linked with him many times in the past 5 years. In light of their recent troubles, the Blues’ seemed to have reignited their interest in the big Dane and have been reported to be keeping tabs on the player over the course of this season.
The report also claims that Chelsea had sent scouts to watch Kjaer when he represented his country in Denmark’s win over Iceland in March. The Blues will reportedly also face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
Kjaer to Chelsea, finally?
He has had an impressive season, helping the Sarı Kanaryalar to a second place finish in the Turkish Super Lig. The nomadic 27 year old has played for 6 clubs over 9 years in 5 different leagues and would bring with him a wealth of experience. according to Squawka, Kjaer has made 66 interceptions and 6 blocks in 27 games for Fenerbahce in the League alone this season.
Fenerbahce have had trouble with Financial Fair Play and may be forced to sell their good players. It wouldn’t be the first time Kjaer has been linked to Chelsea. This season could be different with a rebuilding job set to place at Stamford Bridge. Though John Terry has signed a one-year contract, the 27 year old could be brought in to provide competition for Gary Cahill. With Kurt Zouma set to be out for a while and Miazga’s future uncertain, Kjaer might actually see some game time with the Blues. Conte’s preference for playing 3 central defenders will also benefit the Dane and it would provide him ample opportunity to strut his stuff at Stamford Bridge.
