Chelsea are looking to boost their attack and have joined the race to sign Juventus star Alvaro Morata, if reports from the Italian media are to be believed.
Blues’ incoming boss Antonio Conte is said to be hugely impressed by the Spanish striker who was said to be one of Conte’s transfer targets before he left Juventus to take up his role as the head coach of the Italian national team. Conte is set to take over as the manager at Chelsea FC after Italy’s campaign in the Euro 2016 is over.
According to reputed Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Conte is prepared to talk personally to Morata. The report also suggests that Chelsea are ready to offer the Spaniard a bumper contract worth more than £5 million a year.
Di Marzio also states in his report that a number of other top European clubs are also interested in signing Morata. Of course, the favourites to sign the 23 year old are his former club Real Madrid, who have a £25 million buy back clause on him.
PSG are also said to be interested in signing the striker with Napoli looking at Morata as a possible replacement for Gonzalo Higuain, should the Argentinian leave in the summer.
However, Morata is reportedly looking for a move to the Premier League after a disappointing season at Juventus, during which he only managed to score 11 goals from 46 appearances. The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in signing the Spanish striker, according to Di Marzio.
Morata could improve any of the Premier League giants’ attacks
While the emergence of Paulo Dybala at Juventus has stifled Morata’s opportunity to cement a regular place for himself in the starting lineup, there are plenty of Premier League sides who are struggling in their forwards department.
Arsenal need to sign a striker after Danny Welbeck suffered a long term injury that rules him out for nine months while Manchester United have been struggling in the forwards department with star man Wayne Rooney misfiring. The Red Devils’ captain has found a new role as a playmaker with youngster Marcus Rashford starting up front, but manager Louis van Gaal could do with another quality striker.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see what has re-kindled Antonio Conte’s interest in Morata. There have been reports that suggested Chelsea might sell current top striker Diego Costa. However, Conte is also known to prefer certain formations (like 3-5-2 or 4-2-4), that involves two strikers up front.
