Mats Hummels not ruling out switch to Bayern Munich or Manchester City

Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels’ father has said his son will not rule out a switch to rivals Bayern Munich, or to Manchester City.

According to ESPN, Mat Hummels’ father, Hermann, has stated that his son is open to a move to rivals Bayern Munich or England and Manchester City. He has also said that Mats is open to extending his stay at Dortmund. He joined Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2008. After 8 years and numerous trophies, he is said to be considering his future with Die Schwarzgelben, with his contract expiring in 2017.

But on Thursday, Hummels’ father, who is also his agent, did not rule out a transfer back to the Allianz Arena. He said “We don’t rule out anything — not a switch to Barcelona nor one to Bayern Munich.”

In Kicker (via ESPN) magazine, he added: “Mats wants to achieve his sporting ambitions and only six, seven clubs come into question.”

Those ‘six, seven clubs’ include Chelsea, Manchester United and rivals Manchester City, childhood club Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. He went on say that Borussia Dortmund also among those clubs, saying that Dortmund was something big for his son.

He is reported to have said “I have said that Mats might want to play at another top club. I was then asked whether FC Bayern was one. I said that if I say Bayern are not part of it, I’d ridicule myself.

On a potential move to English Premier League club Manchester City, Hummels said: “Manchester City could also be interesting. They haven’t played that well this season, but they will win the title next year. They will get one of the best managers [Pep Guardiola] in the world.”

Hummels’ Future

Mats Hummels’ immediate focus will be to try and end the season with a trophy for Dortmund. He would walk into the starting lineups of any of the clubs mentioned above. At Dortmund, he’s gbecome one of the best defenders on the planet and there’s sure to be a battle for his signature over the summer if he decided that his future lies away from the Westfalenstadion.

According to ESPN, he’s already stated that he has set a date by when which his future would be decided and he’s choosing to keep it to himself. It’s going to be a busy summer ahead for Hummels with the Euros fast approaching and it would do Germany well to get their star defender’s future sorted sooner rather than later.
