Mourinho demands written promise from Manchester United over managerial position

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has demanded a written promise from Manchester United that he will be the Red Devil’s next manager this summer

The demand comes against the backdrop of legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson coming out in open support of current under-fire United manager Louis van Gaal. Ferguson had stated earlier that it was very easy to be critical of van Gaal and one needs to keep in mind the injuries that Manchester United have nursed over the course of the season.

It has been now been reported that Jose Mourinho’s camp is in panic over the situation and has demanded a written promise from the Manchester United board.

According to the Sun, the club’s Board is seemingly divided over Mourhino’s appointment due to a difference in opinion between the members. However, he clearly enjoys a reputation among the owners and the Chief Executive as someone who has the potential to take Manchester United back to the top.

Mourhino had been heavily linked with Manchester United even at the time when they were looking for a potential successor to Sir Alex. However, it is no secret that Mourhino was snubbed at that time as he did not embrace the ‘top-to-bottom approach’ like Ferguson and Moyes.

Is Mourinho United’s next manager?

Manchester United  are only a point adrift of the qualifying spot for the Champions League. However, qualification still looks implausible since the current top 4 (Man City, Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester) are unlikely to lose more points compared to United.

In case the Red Devils fail to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League, Louis van Gaal is likely to get the sack. If that happens, United would want to consider options such as Pocchetino and Simeone but none of them boast the exemplary record of Jose Mourinho, who is likely to deliver a title to Man United within a span of two seasons. It’s something they terribly need, amidst  the dropping value of Manchester United shares.
