Manchester United keeper David De Gea put in a brilliant performance against Italy earlier this week, but coach Vicente Del Bosque will reportedly continue with his rotation policy and give Iker Casillas the nod in the friendly against Romania.

De Gea has been in inspiring form of late for Manchester United and has been a consistent performer despite the Red Devils’ struggles this season. The 25-year-old continued in the same vein for Spain, impressing in the 1-1 draw against Italy earlier this week.

However, according to reports, Del Bosque will rotate his squad to give every player the same amount of time on the pitch ahead of Euro 2016 later this year. In fact, a report in the Independent even goes on to state that Del Bosque will keep Casillas as his no.1 goalkeeper. The former Real Madrid manager’s loyalty to the Porto shot-stopper is seen as an obstacle to making De Gea the No 1 goalkeeper for the Spanish national team.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is unlikely to be a beneficiary of Del Bosque’s loyalty, as the 27-year-old has failed to impress in international colours with just one goal in 10 appearances for Spain so far. In his place, the likes of Aritz Aduriz could get a chance, with the 35-year-old Athletic Bilbao striker scoring his first international goal in the draw against Antonio Conte’s side.

Spain light in defence

One big issue for the Spaniards is the fact that they are a bit light in defence, as they have had to travel to Romania without centre-back Sergio Ramos. A back problem has prevented the Real Madrid captain from travelling with the Spain squad, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Another big absentee for Spain is Barcelona holding midfielder Sergio Busquets, who has a broken finger, as reported by ESPN. Busquets has long been considered as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, and is an integral part of La Roja’s setup.

The Spaniards have kept six clean sheets in their last seven matches and are likely miss their stalwarts against the counter-attacking threat posed by the Romanian national team.
