Real Madrid dropped points for the first time in the reign of club legend Zinedine Zidane, but the manager blamed the result on bad luck and lauded his team despite the draw.

After two convincing victories over Deportivo and Spoting Gijon in La Liga , Los Blancos dropped points for the first time under new manager Zidane, after playing out a 1-1 draw against Real Betis. Zizou however didn’t seem much perturbed by the result, saying that they were unlucky and the players performed admirably despite the result.

“Maybe our start was not so good,” Zidane said, according to ESPN. “We knew first 10-15 minutes would be difficult. Then with the game we played, we deserved more. But this is football. When you have chances you must take them. And we lacked a bit of luck.”

Tough match, need to keep working

The Real Madrid manager also added that it was a difficult fixture, saying that, “We expected Betis like this… This is a difficult place to play, great fans. And their goal was superb. I did not expect to drop points. But football is like this.

“If you don’t take your chances, this can happen. I am taking the positives from the game we played. I could not reproach my players in anything.”

Zidane lauded the second half performance by his team and stated that he was satisfied and proud of the players performances. Despite Los Blancos now falling further behind rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the race for the title, Zizou said that Real Madrid were still on the path to glory and would keep working towards it.
