Gerard Pique continuously invites the hatred of rival fans with his controversial statements and mocking of other clubs and Espanyol fans were ready to throw a pigs head at the Barcelona defender during their Copa del Rey match.

Pique is one of the most loathed figures in Spanish football, he is usually hated by the Real Madrid fans because of his venomous comments about Los Blancos, but he recently proved that he can even make Catalan supporters turn against him.

After his comments about fellow Catalan club Espanyol not being able to fill their stadium and the bad blood between the two sides as they played a third derby match in succession, the fans were out to get under Pique’s skin. During the match, they unveiled a banner which took a dig at Pique’s pop star wife Shakira, saying ‘Shakira es de todos‘ which translates to ‘Shakira is everyone’s’.

The defender was also lucky that he didn’t come on to play in the match, as a group of fans had smuggled in a pig’s head to throw at him.

Pigue is a hooligan

After the match, former Espanyol manager Javier Clemente has come out and said that Pique acts like a hooligan.

“Pique sometimes comes across like a fan or a hooligan.” Clemente told Radio 4G. [via FourFourTwo.com]

“He’s a Barcelona hooligan and doesn’t realise that he’s a very important player for both Barcelona and Spain… He should stop acting like a fan.”

The Barcelona star is, without a doubt, a much hated figure in La Liga. It remains to be seen whether he can clean up his act soon and start focusing on the football more than off the pitch shenanigans.
