Chelsea Confirmed Lineup vs Real Madrid: James misses out; Werner starts again

Reece James misses out yet again while Timo Werner gets another start as Chelsea get set to take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has named an unchanged lineup for their UEFA Champions League semi-final first let tie against Real Madrid at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

The Blues’ boss has stuck by the same lineup that defeated West Ham United 1-0 at the weekend in the Premier League. That means, Reece James misses out on a starting berth yet again, with Cesar Azpilicueta continuing as the right-sided wing-back. Andreas Christensen, as a result, continues alongside Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger in the three-man backline for Chelsea against Madrid.

Edouard Mendy is the obvious pick in goal for the visitors while Ben Chilwell is preferred to former Real Madrid man Marcos Alonso as the left wing-back. The unchanged midfield partnership sees N’Golo Kante pair up with Jorginho once again as Mateo Kovacic remains unavailable due to an injury.

The in-form duo of Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic slot in as the two attacking midfielders for Chelsea. Up front, Timo Werner, who was on target against West Ham United, gets the nod yet again ahead of Kai Havertz, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud all of whom are options on the bench.

Chelsea Starting Lineup: Mendy; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell; Mount, Pulisic; Werner.
