Mateo Kovacic starts in the middle of the park replacing Jorginho, as Chelsea gear up to take on Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has made just the one change to the team that defeated Rennes in the Champions League in midweek, for their Premier League clash against Sheffield United.

The only alteration comes in the centre of the park where Mateo Kovacic gets a rare start. The Croatian international comes into the side in place of Jorginho, partnering N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount in the Blues’ midfield unit against the Blades.

There are no changes in defence, with the back five of Edouard Mendy, Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva, who will don the captain’s armband and Ben Chilwell continuing in the starting XI. Cesar Azpilicueta remains on the bench.

The attacking unit sees Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner start in the wide areas once again, with Tammy Abraham starting through the centre once again. Olivier Giroud and Callum Hudson-Odoi provide the options from the bench, while Kepa Arrizabalaga does not make the matchday squad, even though he is back to full fitness.

Chelsea Confirmed XI: Mendy; James, Zouma, Silva, Chilwell; Kovacic, Kante, Mount; Ziyech, Abraham, Werner.
