However, just as Louis Van Gaal was enjoying his first success in two years as the manager at Old Trafford, elsewhere Jorge Mendes had set the news ablaze, confirming reports of Jose Mourinho completing his move to Manchester as the next boss of the Red Devils.

The Portuguese had long been touted as the favourite to replace Louis Van Gaal should the club choose to do so. However, when United lost out on Renato Sanches, also a client of Mendes’, it was seen as a breakdown of talks between the club and the agent in which case Mourinho’s move to the Red Devils seemed unlikely. The deal, however, as Mendes has confirmed, is back on the table as Mourinho is expected to fly to Manchester and complete the necessary procedures in time to be unveiled by the club on Monday.
