FC Pune City sign Gustavo Oberman

The Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan co-owned Indian Super League club FC Pune City completed the signing of Argentine midfielder Gustavo Oberman for the third edition of the league. The South American has plied his trade in Argentina and Spain and will be making his ISL debut this season.

Club CEO Gaurav Modwel was impressed with Gustavo’s addition to his side.

“Gustavo is a midfielder with a penchant for attacking. He is adept to lead the second line of attack for the team and his game awareness is something that we were very impressed with.

“I wish him all the best for his new stint,” said Modwell.

Gustavo was a part of the Argentina side that won the Under-20 World Cup in 2005. Nicknamed Cachete, the 31-year-old’s professional football career began at Argentino Juniors in 2003.  He then went on to play for River Plat, CD Castellon, CFR Cluj and Cordoba CF.

Head-coach Antonio Habas said: Gustavo is a player who we feel is right suited the style of football which we at FC Pune City would like to play this season, i.e. attacking brand.

“He has a knack of making chances from unexpected positions and I’m sure that’s going to be an asset to the team.”

According to Goal, Mohun Bagan have decided to not play any part in the remainder of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) after deciding to take their team off the field of play in the encounter against Tollygunge Agragami at the Mohun Bagan ground.

The Mariners had two goals disallowed in the match which resulted in the players walking off. The fans in attendance too, lost their heads as they ran onto the pitch and got involved in altercations with the match officials.

“In this condition the referee decided that the match could not be continued and I waited for around thirty minutes before calling it off,” said Udayan Halder, the match commissioner for the day.

“We don’t want to play the match any more. We are withdrawing the team in protest of this one-sided refereeing,” said club president, Swapan Sadhan Bose as he led the team out.

However, Bagan’s club secretary Anjan Mitra said that they have written to the Indian Football Association requesting for the tie to be replayed. They also requested the governing body not to schedule any more matches until the decision of a replay had been granted to them.
