Mumbai City FC are in talks with former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan. Negotiations between the Uruguayan and Atletico de Kolkata broke down last month.

Mumbai have been on the lookout for a new marquee striker this summer and their search has reportedly led them to the 37-year-old Forlan.

Forlan, who has played for top European giants like Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan, was previously tipped for a move to 2014 Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata. However, recent reports have revealed that the former Uruguay international is now in talks with Mumbai City FC.

“We are no more talking with the Kolkata team. Yes, we are in advanced talks with Mumbai City. We have to see if the deal goes through,” Forlan’s agent and brother Pablo was quoted as saying to Goal.com.

Forlan has won a number of top European silverware, including the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Europa League. However, his greatest achievement in football remains helping Uruguay finish fourth in the 2014 World Cup. He was awarded the Golden Ball (best player of the tournament) award for his efforts.

Mohun Bagan off to a flying start

Mohun Bagan kicked off their Calcutta Football League campaign with a flying start, destroying Aryan Club by a 5-1 scoreline. New signing Darryll rounded off a memorable night for the Mariners, scoring a hattrick on his debut for the Kolkata giants.

The 5-1 demolition of Aryan was made all the more memorable for the Mariners as their youngsters played brilliantly in the game. 22-year-old Prabir Das rounded off a wonderful performance, scoring one goal and providing two assists to Mohun Bagan’s Scottish forward.

20-year-old Azharuddin Mallick also had a memorable performance, as he scored a 77th minute shot found the back of the net, to cap off a five star performance for Mohun Bagan.

Chennaiyin FC sign Italian forwards

Chennaiyin FC have strengthened their attack by signing Italian forwards Davide Succi and Maurizio Peluso for the upcoming season of the ISL.

Both the strikers have played in the Italian top flight, with Succi having represented Chievo while Peluso has played for Palermo. However, both Succi and Peluso have had to spend most of their playing career in the lower leagues of Italian football.

“We are very happy to have signed Succi and Peluso. Succi’s class and experience and Peluso’s quality and versatility will be very important for our title defence,” Chennailyin head coach Marco Materazzi was quoted as saying in the Super Machans’ official website.

The signing of the two Italian forwards is set to strengthen Materazzi’s front line considerably.
