Mumbai FC are on a disappointing run at the moment, but manager Khalid Jamil attributed the 2-0 loss at the hands of Mohun Bagan to the fact that the Mariners have “two of the best” foreign players in the I-League.
With this defeat, Mumbai have now slumped to the eighth position on the I-League table, while Mohun Bagan march solidly on, to win their second league title in a row.
“It was a very disappointing match. We didn’t play well. Mohun Bagan played well, and deserved to take the three points,” Jamil said after the match.
However, Jamil also pointed out that his side now have a long break before their next match, to figure out what is going wrong for them, work on those problems. Their next match is almost three week after this loss to Mohun Bagan, as they travel to Bengaluru FC on April 2. He said, “Yeah, a break is there [after this match], and we have to sort it all out [during the break].”
Mohun Bagan have the best foreigners
While lamenting the 2-0 loss on Sunday, Jamil also expressed his awe for the Mohun Bagan players, who are yet to lose a single game in the league. In particular, he had special praises in store for the Mariners’ s winger Haitian Sony Norde, and their Japanese playmaker Yusa Katsumi.
“Sony Norde is one of the best foreigners [in the I-League]. He is playing well no doubt, and he is one of the best players in the league,” said Jamil. “Katsumi, he came [on], and he did the damage. [Both] Katsumi and Sony Norde are good foreign [players], two of the best foreigners in India.”
