FPL Tips for Gameweek 28: Best Captaincy Options for DGW

The Hard Tackle presents a shortlist of the best candidates to hand the captain’s armband in FPL in Gameweek 28.

The highly-anticipated Double Gameweek 28 is here. The latest DGW in FPL is a small one, with only two teams playing twice in the latest round of fixtures. But both clubs have enticing games in the upcoming matchday, making some of their players attractive captaincy options despite their status as bottom-half teams.

Luton Town and Bournemouth play twice in DGW 28, with the former facing Crystal Palace and Bournemouth in away assignments, while the latter will take on Sheffield United and Luton in home games. So, with their opponents having vulnerable backlines, we can back their attackers to come good.

In addition, we recommend two players who play only once in the latest round of fixtures. But such is their form that overlooking them might be foolish. With that in mind, The Hard Tackle presents the shortlist of four players you should consider to hand the armband heading into Gameweek 28 of the FPL.

DGW Captain = Big Returns

If your thought process aligns with a Double Gameweek offering the highest chance of big returns, then we have two options for you. These stars also come with eye-catching prices and will not set you back by much. We are talking about Carlton Morris (£5.1m) and Dominic Solanke (£7.1m).

Carlton Morris has been the go-to player for Rob Edwards whenever he has needed someone to bail Luton Town out of a sticky situation this season. No Luton player has contributed to more goals for the Hatters this term (13) than the Englishman, with only Elijah Adebayo finding the back of the net (9) more often.

But with Adebayo unavailable due to a hamstring injury, Morris has stepped up, and how. The 28-year-old has a return in seven of his last nine outings, only drawing a blank against Liverpool and Chelsea during this run. Morris has five goals and four assists in these appearances, making him one of the most in-form players in the FPL.

So, with Luton Town facing Crystal Palace and Bournemouth (two teams with vulnerable backlines) in DGW 28, it might be worth your time to invest in Morris, even if as a short-term option. As for Solanke, such has been his impact that high-profile clubs like Arsenal are keen on signing him.

The Englishman has been exceptional thus far this term, finding the back of the net 14 times in the Premier League. Those goals make him the fourth-highest scorer in the English top flight, with only Erling Haaland, Ollie Watkins, and Mohamed Salah being more prolific.

In addition, one cannot ask for a better set for Double Gameweek fixtures than Luton Town and Sheffield United. The Hatter and the Blades have conceded 22 goals apiece in their last six outings. So, even though Solanke drew a blank against Burnley, he will back himself to come good against Luton and Sheffield United.

No DGW? No Problem

While Carlton Morris and Dominic Solanke are invariably the most attractive captaincy options for DGW 28, we recommend two other players who only play once in the upcoming matchday due to their irresistible form. So, Bukayo Saka (£9.2m) and Jarrod Bowen (£7.9m) round off an all-English list.

Saka, in particular, has been exceptional in the last few weeks in FPL, racking up a whopping 66 points in his last six outings. He has amassed seven goals and two assists during this run, making him the most in-form player in the competition heading into Gameweek 28.

So, with a struggling Brentford visiting Arsenal at the Emirates this weekend, you cannot bet against Saka extending his excellent run of form and producing a fifth double-digit haul in seven games. The Bees have shipped in 16 goals in their last six outings, meaning they will be ripe for the taking in the London Derby.

As for Bowen, he does not have as big a case to don the captain’s armband. But considering West Ham United will take on Burnley at the London Stadium this weekend, the English attacker might be the best “Dark Horse” option for FPL captaincy in DGW 28.

The 27-year-old ended his and West Ham’s dry run last week with back-to-back wins that yielded him 25 points, including a match-winning hat-trick against Brentford. Interestingly, Bowen has produced a haul in all six games that the Hammers have won most recently. So, with West Ham expected to beat Burnley, expect Bowen to deliver the goods.
