Inquizitivity – Quiz 13

Chain-Quizzing (c)TheHardTackle continues with yet another edition. I have kept the clues to a limited amount this time around. As always, try identifying all the ten characters. 10 points for every correct answer. 50 Points bonus for guessing ‘J’.

Question 1:

‘A’s transfer to Inter, was, at that time, one of the costliest transfers involving an English player. ‘A’, after playing 2 years at Inter, came back to England and was involved in one of the most controversial and rare transfers of English football. ‘A’ represented his country 53 times.

Question 2:

‘B’ was ‘A’s successor when the later had left the club. On loan at a certain English club, the club manager named his son instead of ‘B’ in the starting line-up of a match. That manager was a former club team-mate of ‘B’. ‘B’ played his last season at Tier 2 of English football, retiring before this new season started.

Question 3:

‘C’ was ‘B’s club team-mate for a few years. C has a unique stat for the first two clubs he played, the ‘appearances’ and the ‘goals scored’ numbers are exactly similar for both clubs. ‘C’ wore the famous No.9 while playing at an English club. That jersey was deserted by a legend at that club.

Question 4:

One of the reasons for ‘C’ leaving his first club was the arrival of ‘D’ in a costly transfer. ‘D’ was involved in another bizarre yet very costly transfer few years later when he moved to another top European club. ‘D’ has a black belt in taekwondo and represents the country of his birth for Internationals.

Question 5:

‘E’ was the club manager when ‘D’ spent three productive years at a club. During his playing years, ‘E’ was renowned for his long-range free-kick accuracy. ‘E’ scored goals in two consecutive European Cup Finals, a feat never achieved before.

Question 6:

‘F’ was a legend at the club ‘E’ managed for one year. ‘F’ was also instrumental in his country’s one particular World Cup win. He was top goal-scorer in two consecutive seasons for his club winning them the league. He is 56 years old now.

Question 7:

‘G’ was involved in an infamous incident in a World Cup match, where another top-class player kicked him and got sent off. ‘G’ has an Olympic Silver medal and is one of the most capped players of his country. ‘G’ is of the same nationality as ‘F’.

Question 8:

That infamous incident is part of a famous football rivalry which reached an all-time high in another controversial match 12 years before the incident mentioned in the earlier question. ‘H’ was a part of that match where he scored a goal but failed to win it for his country. He is the only player to win the English Golden Boot with three different clubs. He is one of those rare players to have never been cautioned in a game of football.

Question 9:

‘I’ was beaten by ‘H’ when the latter scored a goal in a FA Cup Final. ‘I’s team, though, won that match 3-1. Considered as a legend at his club, ‘I’ played at Center Back. He was involved in a treble season of his club before they were banned from European football, the next season. He retired in the year 1991, having played for just two clubs in his entire life.

Question 10:

Identify ‘J’.
