Roberto De Zerbi may not face any immediate danger of losing his job at Tottenham, with the club set to show faith in the Italian tactician.
Tottenham have been struggling for relevance since the start of the new season, and with their loss to Aston Villa, they have hit an 18-year low. As per TEAMtalk, Spurs are set to show faith in Roberto De Zerbi and continue backing the manager despite the recent struggles, although that may not mean the pressure is off the Italian.
Roberto De Zerbi arrived late last season in a bid to revive Tottenham’s season and protect them from the prospect of relegation. The Italian tactician did an admirable job at the time, and since then the club have backed him with a commendable transfer spend that has allowed Spurs to strengthen the team significantly.
However, none of those new players have managed to shine so far, as Tottenham, for the first time in 18 years and since the 2008/09 season, find themselves bottom of the pile after five games of the new season, fuelling talk that another change is needed. The latest result came against Aston Villa at home, with Tottenham still without a win in five league games.
Is De Zerbi safe in his role?
There has already been speculation over his future, especially given the scale of the spending overseen by De Zerbi and the results that do not reflect the club’s objectives. The Italian has remained calm despite pressure from the external media, and moving forward, the Lilywhites are willing to keep backing him.
Alan Shearer recently criticised De Zerbi for the North London club’s performances so far in the 2026/27 season, while others, such as Christophe Dugarry, did not mince their words when speaking about the Italian’s displays. While there is pressure to deliver good results, the manager is currently safe, as Spurs are willing to keep faith in him.
While Tottenham are willing to give him ample time to turn things around, that does not necessarily mean the pressure is completely off. The current position at the bottom of the table is certainly not acceptable as far as the North Londoners are concerned, and the board will want immediate improvement after the international break.
It is all in De Zerbi’s hands to turn things around for Tottenham and get the bearings right. A few more disappointing results could take matters out of his hands and force the club into a stern decision, which may not be favourable for the Italian coach.
