Fabian Hurzeler comments on Carlos Baleba future amid Manchester United links

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler opens up on Carlos Baleba’s future amidst interest from rivals Manchester United.

Carlos Baleba has been on Manchester United’s radar for some time now. After starting four games in a row, he was benched by Fabian Hurzeler in the final game of the season against the Red Devils, a fixture where they suffered a 3-0 defeat.

That decision has once again resulted in a lot of speculation about the future of the Cameroonian international. While United seem keen on his signature, the Brighton manager has made his stance clear. He “100 per cent” wants Baleba at Brighton next season, as per a report from Sky Sports. His words are a massive blow for the Red Devils, who are keen on adding him to their setup.

The 33-year-old manager did explain the reasons for benching Baleba against United. He said it was due to tiredness. Hurzeler is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old. He considers the Cameroonian an integral part of his setup and wants him around next season at all costs.

While the Brighton defensive midfielder is still quite young, he has shown a great level of maturity on the pitch. He has been one of their most consistent performers in recent years and is widely regarded as one of the best in his position.

While United could go after Baleba?

Baleba doesn’t shy away from a fight or two in midfield. He is exceptionally good at shielding the backline and helping them play out from the back. He has all the qualities that a club like United are looking for in a new defensive midfielder.

With Casemiro leaving the club in the summer, a new holding midfielder is a top priority for United, and the Cameroonian certainly fits the bill. He could help them cope with his absence and will also form a very reliable partnership with Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of the park in the long run.

His contract at Brighton runs until 2028, which means the Seagulls are in no rush to cash in on him. However, a significant financial offer could tempt them, and the players’ desire will also play a big part. For now, their coach is hoping the 22-year-old continues at the club for another season.
