Mohamed Salah aims another dig at Arne Slot

Liverpool star forward Mohamed Salah takes another dig at manager Arne Slot following their defeat to Aston Villa.

While Liverpool remain fifth on the points table with a game to go, they are yet to secure Champions League football following their 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Friday night. Following the game, their star forward, Mohamed Salah, appeared to aim a dig at manager Arne Slot in a tweet.

The Egyptian international wrote, ‘I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there.

‘Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve.

‘I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.

‘That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

‘Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.

‘Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.

‘As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.’

Salah has done wonders for the Reds since joining them in 2017. With him leading their attack, the Merseyside club have won two Premier League titles and a Champions League. During his nine-year spell, the Egyptian has contributed towards 379 goals in 441 appearances.

While he was on fire in Arne Slot’s debut campaign and ended up contributing towards 53 goals, his numbers have gone down to 21 goal contributions this time around. His relationship with Arne Slot hasn’t been the best, and it has also affected his role in the team.

Salah still had a year left on his deal, but the Egyptian international has decided to bring an end to his time at Liverpool. The club has also agreed to let him leave as a free agent. While he is set to leave the club, the 33-year-old is still fully committed to their cause. However, he doesn’t seem to back Slot, who has been facing a lot of heat of late.

Salah takes another dig at Slot

Given how the season has panned out, he has been under a lot of scrutiny, and it only increased following their thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa. Salah, who returned from injury to make a substitute appearance in the game, wasn’t pleased with the result and made his frustration known with a tweet.

It appeared to be another dig at Slot, as Salah insisted that the club should return to playing heavy metal football, a brand of football they were known to play under Jurgen Klopp. He even suggested that the style should remain, and those coming in should adjust to it.

This wasn’t the first time he aimed a dig at the Dutch manager; the duo had an explosive fall-out earlier in the season. Following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw back in December, when he saw the entire game from the bench, the Egyptian gave an interview to reporters at Elland Road, where he accused the club of throwing him under the bus and said that he had no relationship with Slot.
