Barcelona considering summer move for Jhon Lucumi

Barcelona may look to sign 35-cap Colombian international Jhon Lucumi from Serie A club Bologna in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The defending La Liga champions are eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing a centre-back ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The latest report has revealed that the Catalan giants view the South American defender as a cost-effective alternative to Alessandro Bastoni, who has been their top target in recent weeks. Bologna will demand around €25-30 million to part ways with Lucumi in the coming months.

How has Jhon Lucumi fared in Serie A?

Jhon Lucumi has made considerable progress since joining Bologna from KRC Genk in July 2022. The 27-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for the Rossoblu, establishing himself as one of the most reliable centre-backs in Serie A in the last three and a half years.

The 35-cap Colombian international has made nearly 150 appearances for Bologna thus far while chipping in with two goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Lucumi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. A move to La Liga may be on the cards for the player, with Barcelona among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

La Liga move on the horizon?

Barcelona’s interest in Jhon Lucumi is understandable. The Blaugrana will dip into the market for a centre-back in the upcoming transfer window, as Andreas Christensen faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou and may depart as a free agent.

Additionally, Ronald Araujo has been unreliable at the back due to his fitness issues and sliding performance levels. So, Barcelona will scour the market for a long-term central defensive partner for Pau Cubarsi, with Lucumi emerging as a viable target. The 27-year-old Bologna defender is at the peak of his powers, and he can hit the ground running at Spotify Camp Nou.

While Bastoni remains Barcelona’s top target, they must move several pieces to afford a summer deal for the Italian international. Meanwhile, Lucumi will cost only €25-30 million, and the Blaugrana may have the funds to sign the 35-cap Colombian international in the summer transfer window.
